Why use Real Nappies?

There are many reasons why parents choose to use cloth nappies and every family is different. Some families are looking to save money, some to reduce waste going to landfill and others want to have only natural products next to baby's skin....and some may just love the cute, colourful nappies available which are much more funky than disposables!  Whatever the reason, there is something to suit everyone.

Modern Real nappies are so easy to use, easy to launder and they look and feel great. They are available in such a huge range of shapes, sizes, designs and colours that there is something for all tastes and budgets!

Environmental Impact:

  • Every day in the UK around 8,000,000 disposable nappies are used and thrown away.
  • From birth to potty training (approx 2.5 yrs) you would get through approximately 6,000 disposable nappies!
  • No-one knows how long it takes for a disposable nappy to break down completely but it is likely that they will take hundreds of years

Better for baby:

  • Disposables contain paper pulp, plastics, absorbent gel granules and chemical additives in the plastics and perfumes
  • Reusable nappies do not contain any potentially harmful super-absorbent gels, deodorants or chemicals
  • Real nappies are available in natural, organic fabrics.

Save Money:

  • Using Real Nappies could save you a lot of money. One baby in disposables for 2.5 years would cost approx £900-£1000, yet a set of washable nappies could cost as little as £350, including laundry costs and wear and tear
  • Real nappies will usually last for more than one baby, increasing the amount you save even further.

Real nappies are also a lot more convenient than they used to be. There is no longer the need for soaking and boiling nappies. Many are shaped and self-fastening and they can all be dry-pailed and washed in the machine. There are also a fantastic range of Pocket and All-in-One nappies available which are put on in the same way as a disposable, making it super easy.
